Singapore Police Force to Launch Real-Time Crowd Map for Christmas Eve Celebrations
Singapore is gearing up for a festive and bustling Christmas Eve celebration in the city area, with the launch of a new digital map called Crowd@OrchardRoad. This innovative tool will provide real-time updates on crowd levels and area closures, helping residents and visitors navigate the bustling streets with ease.
According to the Singapore Police Force, the Crowd@OrchardRoad portal will also suggest less-crowded spots in town, offering a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the main festivities. Accessible via mobile devices from 6pm on Christmas Eve to 2am on Christmas Day, this map is set to be a game-changer for those looking to make the most of the holiday season.
In preparation for the Christmas celebration street party along the Orchard district, several road closures will be in effect from 6pm on Sunday to 2am next Monday. Orchard Road, the slip road leading from Scotts Road into Orchard Road, and the carriageway of Mount Elizabeth will be closed to accommodate the festivities. Auxiliary police officers will be on hand to regulate traffic and assist motorists, ensuring a smooth flow of vehicles in the area.
Additionally, enhanced patrols will be conducted by police officers on Christmas Eve to ensure the safety and security of the public. Crowd control barricades and direction signs will be put up, and security personnel may conduct checks on bags and personal items. Motorists are advised to stay tuned to the radio for the latest traffic updates and to cooperate with authorities to ensure a safe and enjoyable celebration.
As the Orchard MRT station is expected to be crowded, certain entrances and exits may be closed to regulate crowd flow. The public is encouraged to use Somerset MRT station as an alternative to minimize wait times, or to explore other modes of public transport. The authorities are also reminding the public to be considerate and to avoid using party novelty items that may compromise the safety of others.
For any information on suspicious persons or activities, the public is urged to contact the Police or Internal Security Department, or to use the I-Witness e-service or SGSecure App to provide information to the authorities. With these measures in place, Singaporeans can look forward to a safe and enjoyable Christmas celebration in the heart of the city.
