French WGM Andreaa Navrotescu Achieves Perfect 9/9 Score in Menchik Memorial Challengers, Outshining Even Magnus Carlsen

French Woman Grandmaster Andreaa Navrotescu made chess history by achieving a feat that not even World Champion Magnus Carlsen has accomplished before her. Navrotescu secured a perfect 9/9 score in the Menchik Memorial Challengers tournament in London, outclassing her opponents and finishing two full points ahead of the runner-up.

Despite being the fourth seed in the tournament, Navrotescu dominated the competition with her flawless performance. Her remarkable achievement caught the attention of the chess world, with GMs Fabiano Caruana and Susan Polgar congratulating her on social media.

Navrotescu, a six-time French Youth Chess Champion, reflected on her victory, stating that dominating the field was extremely ego-flattering and a rare accomplishment in top-level chess. She expressed her surprise at the outcome, as she did not have high expectations entering the tournament.

With her rating jumping 71 points after the tournament, Navrotescu is set to climb back above 2300 and continue her success in future events. She highlighted her opening preparation and calculation skills as key factors in her victory, showcasing her strong chess abilities throughout the tournament.

The Menchik Memorial Challengers tournament, organized by the English Chess Federation in memory of Vera Menchik, provided Navrotescu with a platform to showcase her talent and make chess history. She credited the ECF for their efforts in organizing tournaments for women and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete.

Navrotescu’s perfect score in the Menchik Memorial Challengers solidifies her position as a rising star in the chess world and sets a new standard for excellence in women’s chess.
