US Chess Opens 2024-2025 Title I School Outreach Program for Affiliates Serving At-Risk Youth

US Chess has announced the opening of the 2024-2025 Title I School Outreach Program for affiliates serving at-risk youth. This program aims to bring the benefits of chess to students attending Title I schools, with the support of generous donors who are committed to helping underserved communities.

Chess has been proven to be transformative for children, improving their focus, decision-making skills, and teaching them about the consequences of their choices. These are lifelong skills that can have an immediate impact in the classroom. US Chess is seeking partnerships with affiliates that offer chess programs to Title I schools, providing 16 free memberships for students and 8 boards and pieces for each school’s program.

DeVaughn Croxton, US Chess Director of Programs, expressed the organization’s commitment to meeting the needs of students from underserved communities and expanding the positive impacts of chess. The program reflects US Chess’ mission to empower people, enrich lives, and enhance communities through chess.

To be eligible for the program, affiliates must have current US Chess membership, be a 501(c)(3) organization, and serve Title I public schools. Applicants must provide the school name, address, and contact information for its principal, and the school must be Title I-designated by the US Department of Education.

Programs that receive funding will be required to complete surveys during the academic year to provide feedback for future improvements. Affiliates can apply for the program through the provided link, with applications closing once the maximum number of programs that can be supported is reached.

In addition to the outreach program, US Chess offers a variety of resources to support chess programs, including the Chess Life Kids magazine, guides to starting a successful chess club, online learning and playing platforms, and resources for learning chess notation. Affiliates and schools can also find tournaments near them through the US Chess website.

Overall, the 2024-2025 Title I School Outreach Program is a valuable opportunity for affiliates to bring the benefits of chess to at-risk youth and make a positive impact in their communities.
