The Philippine team is hoping to make a strong showing in the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad, with young talents like Daniel Quizon and Ruelle Canino leading the charge. Quizon, just 10 points away from achieving the coveted Grandmaster title, will be playing at the top board in the absence of GM Julio Catalino Sadorra. Meanwhile, Canino, at just 16 years old, is already being touted as the next Woman Grandmaster for the country.

With the support of the Philippine Sports Commission and the National Chess Federation of the Philippines, the team is determined to aim for a top 20 finish in the prestigious tournament held in Budapest, Hungary.
