AICF Unveils Ambitious Initiatives to Popularize Chess in India: Rs 65 Crore Budget Revealed
The All India Chess Federation (AICF) has set its sights on further popularizing the sport of chess in India following a historic month for Indian chess players. With a budget of Rs 65 crore, the AICF has unveiled a host of initiatives aimed at nurturing talent, providing financial support, and promoting chess at all levels.
Last month, five Indian grandmasters made headlines by competing in the prestigious Candidates tournament, with 17-year-old Gukesh emerging as the youngest player to qualify for the World Chess Championship battle. Building on this success, the AICF has announced plans to integrate chess into school curriculums, introduce e-learning in syllabuses, identify and nurture talent, strengthen grassroots academies, and ensure the sustainability of the federation.
Newly appointed AICF president, Nitin Narang, emphasized the importance of supporting players and empowering them to achieve global excellence. Initiatives such as introducing player contracts, cash rewards for top players, a chess development fund, and a Women In Chess program aim to provide opportunities and resources for players of all levels and backgrounds.
Additionally, plans for collaborations with content creators, national chess awards, a corporate chess league, and programs for wheelchair users, senior citizens, and at-risk youth demonstrate the AICF’s commitment to making chess accessible and inclusive for all. With these initiatives in place, the AICF is poised to take Indian chess to new heights and inspire a new generation of players.
