Life Behind Bars: Alex Murdaugh Playing Chess and Working in Prison, Report Says

The infamous Alex Murdaugh, who was convicted of murdering his wife and son, seems to be living a rather comfortable life behind bars, according to recent reports. Despite his heinous crimes, state records show that Murdaugh is enjoying his time in prison, playing chess and working as a ward keeper’s assistant.

His attorney, Jim Griffin, revealed to NBC that Murdaugh is a regular at the chessboard, spending hours playing with other inmates who are skilled players. Additionally, Murdaugh’s job as a ward keeper’s assistant allows him to earn work credits that can reduce his sentence.

Despite being confined to his cell from Friday to Monday, Murdaugh seems to have made friends and is described as an “affable guy” by his attorney. Another attorney representing a friend of Murdaugh claimed that he is “living it up” in prison, even running a “side gambling system.”

These revelations come after a former dorm-mate of Murdaugh spoke out about the special treatment he receives in prison, including being gifted a tablet on his first day and spending big in the commissary. The South Carolina Supreme Court has agreed to hold an appeal hearing for Murdaugh, with his attorneys arguing that the jury was tampered with during his trial.
