The Chess World Divided: Magnus Carlsen vs FIDE – Feud with Hans Niemann Intensifies

The ongoing feud between Magnus Carlsen and FIDE president Arkady Dvorkovich has taken a personal turn as American grandmaster Hans Niemann joins the fray, launching a scathing attack on the Norwegian world champion on social media.

Niemann, who has been embroiled in controversy himself, did not mince words as he accused Carlsen of being “arrogant, entitled, unaware, and cowardly” in a public post. This latest jab comes amidst a long-standing feud between the two players, with Carlsen previously accusing Niemann of cheating in a tournament.

The tension between Carlsen and FIDE escalated further when Carlsen called out Dvorkovich for coercion of players, misuse of power, and broken promises in relation to the Freestyle Tour. Carlsen demanded Dvorkovich’s resignation, leading to FIDE dropping the requirement for a controversial waiver for players to participate in the tour.

As the battle lines in the chess world continue to be drawn, the future of the Freestyle Tour and the quest for a world champion remains uncertain. With Carlsen leading the charge for decentralization from FIDE control, the chess world is witnessing a power struggle unlike any other.
