Amitabh Bachchan Extends Best Wishes to Indian Chess Contingent After Historic Victory

The Indian chess contingent has made the country proud by clinching two gold medals in both the men’s and women’s categories at the 45th Chess Olympiad. Veteran Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan, who currently hosts the popular quiz show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, extended his best wishes to the victorious team.

Taking to his Instagram, Bachchan shared a video showcasing the players of the Indian contingent and expressed his gratitude towards their remarkable victory. He wrote, “India’s amazing victory at Chess Olympiad !!! Chess players, full India is grateful. The chest is wide with pride, they have spread the tricolour”.

The men’s team, featuring Vidit Gujrathi, Arjun Erigaisi, Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa, Pentala Harikrishna, and D Gukesh, ended India’s 97-year wait for a gold medal in the Chess Olympiad. Following suit, the women’s team comprising of Divya Deshmukh, D Harika, Tania Sachdev, Vaishali Rameshbabu, and Vantika Agrawal secured the second gold for India in the prestigious event held in Budapest, Hungary.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated the Indian team on their historic win, stating, “India has won the Gold in both open and women’s category at Chess Olympiad! Congratulations to our incredible Men’s and Women’s Chess Teams”. He further added, “This remarkable achievement marks a new chapter in India’s sports trajectory. May this success inspire generations of chess enthusiasts to excel in the game”.

Meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan is gearing up for his upcoming movie ‘Vettaiyan’, where he will reunite with Tamil megastar Rajinikanth after 33 years. The actor was last seen in the blockbuster movie ‘Kalki 2898 AD’. The chess victory and Bachchan’s well wishes have certainly brought a wave of joy and pride among Indians across the globe.
