The Indian chess team’s historic win at the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary has garnered praise from top Indian billionaires Anand Mahindra and Gautam Adani. The team’s gold medal-winning performance in both the men’s and women’s categories has been celebrated across the country.

Anand Mahindra, known for his active presence on social media, took to platform X to share his excitement over India’s victory. He posted a photo of the Indian winners with a caption that read, “The Crown now belongs to India. The Crown comes home to the birthplace of Chaturanga—and Chess. 1.4 billion Indians salute this Team of 5.”

Gautam Adani, the Chairperson of the Adani group, also congratulated the Indian team on their remarkable achievement. He highlighted the significance of Chess returning to India, where the game originated. Adani expressed his pride in India’s dominance in Chaturanga, as he referred to Chess, and hailed the teams for clinching gold at the Chess Olympiad.

The Indian men’s team secured victory over Slovenia, while the women’s team emerged victorious against Azerbaijan. Players like Arjun Erigaisi, Praggnanandhaa R, Pentala Harikrishna, and Vidit Gujrathi showcased exceptional skills, contributing to India’s historic win. Arjun Erigaisi’s impressive performance earned him a live rating of 2,797, placing him as World No. 3.

The roots of Chess can be traced back to chaturanga, an ancient Indian war game mentioned in the epic Mahabharata. The game’s origins continue to be a subject of debate among historians, but India’s success at the Chess Olympiad has reignited interest in the country’s rich history with the game.
