Angela Lee to Face Xiong Jingnan in Historic ONE Championship Title Fight
Angela Lee Set to Face Arch-Rival Xiong Jingnan in Historic MMA Showdown
SINGAPORE — In what promises to be a historic moment for mixed martial arts (MMA) star Angela Lee, she is gearing up to face her arch-rival Xiong Jingnan on 1 October at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Lee is aiming to become the first female fighter in ONE Championship history to hold two world title belts simultaneously.
The highly anticipated bout between Lee and Xiong will mark the third time the two fighters have squared off in their careers. Xiong, the current ONE women’s strawweight titleholder, will defend her title against Lee, who holds the ONE women’s atomweight title.
Lee, who recently made a remarkable comeback to MMA in February after giving birth to her daughter Ava Marie, took to Instagram to announce the upcoming showdown. In her post, she expressed her determination to capture the strawweight belt from Xiong and achieve the status of a double champion.
The 26-year-old Lee previously attempted to secure two title belts in March 2019 but suffered a defeat to Xiong via a technical knockout during their strawweight title bout in Tokyo. However, in October of the same year, Lee emerged victorious as she claimed a dramatic submission win over Xiong in the atomweight title match.
In addition to the headline fight between Lee and Xiong, the event will feature other exciting matchups, including the co-main event where ONE featherweight kickboxing champion Superbon Singha Mawynn will defend his title against top contender Chingiz Allazov. Furthermore, the promotion will host its first submission grappling world title bout, with Mikey Musumeci and Cleber Sousa vying for the inaugural ONE flyweight submission grappling world championship.
Tickets for the event officially go on sale on Friday at 12pm Singapore time. Fans can expect a night filled with adrenaline-pumping action and intense competition as some of the best fighters in the world showcase their skills in the octagon.
