Indian Grandmasters Arjun Erigiasi and D. Gukesh Retain Fourth and Fifth Spot in Chess Rankings
Indian Grandmasters Arjun Erigiasi and World Champion D. Gukesh have maintained their impressive positions in the latest chess rankings, showcasing the strength of Indian chess on the global stage.
Erigiasi, who recently achieved the prestigious ELO rating of 2800, remains in the fourth spot with 2801 rating points. This accomplishment puts him in elite company, joining the ranks of chess legend Viswanathan Anand.
On the other hand, Gukesh, the 18-year-old prodigy who secured the World Championships title by defeating Ding Liren, is hot on Erigiasi’s heels at fifth place with 2783 ratings. His remarkable victory has solidified his position among the world’s best chess players.
The top spot in the rankings is held by Norwegian Magnus Carlsen with 2831 ratings, followed by Americans Fabiano Caruana and Hikaru Nakamura. Anand, another Indian chess icon, is also in the top 10, claiming the 10th spot with an ELO rating of 2750.
In addition to Erigiasi, Gukesh, and Anand, India boasts six more players in the top 50, including R Praggnandhaa, Aravindh Chithambaram, Vidit Gujarathi, Pentala Harikrishna, Nihal Sarin, and Raunak Sadhwani.
On the women’s side, Women’s World Rapid Chess champion Koneru Humpy leads the Indian contingent, ranking sixth in the list dominated by Chinese players. Former world champion Hou Yifan holds the top spot, followed by Ju Wenjun, Tan Zhongyi, and Lei Tingjie.
Indian players Divya Deshmukh and Dronavalli Harika also feature prominently in the women’s rankings, showcasing the depth of talent in Indian chess. In the junior men’s section, Gukesh and Praggnanandhaa continue to shine, occupying the top two spots.
