Arjun Erigaisi Climbs to World No. 4 in FIDE Rankings, Gears Up for Chess Olympiad and Global Chess League

Arjun Erigaisi has been making waves in the world of chess with his remarkable rise to World No. 4 in the FIDE world ratings this year. His career-best ranking comes on the heels of a stunning victory over France’s Loic Travadon at the French Team Chess Championship 2024. As the Chess Olympiad kicks off in Budapest this month and the Global Chess League commences in London on October 3, Erigaisi is gearing up for an exciting and challenging chess season ahead.

In a statement released by the Global Chess League, Erigaisi expressed his enthusiasm and confidence for the upcoming events. “Starting with the Olympiad, I have a long trip coming up, so I am not preparing specifically for any of these events, but I am sticking to my usual general preparation,” Erigaisi said. “Last year, I was on the same team as Magnus Carlsen, and now I am on the same team as Vishy Anand, sir. Following the 2013 World Championship Match as a fan and then playing alongside them after 10-11 years is a huge delight.”

Reflecting on his experiences from the inaugural season of the Global Chess League in Dubai, Erigaisi described it as a thrilling experience. “Season one was a thriller for me. I am very excited and motivated for the second season and hope to deliver a strong performance this time,” he said. “Team chess tournaments are rare, but I love them. The Global Chess League stands out because it provides a unique chance to bond with teammates you might not know personally.”

The upcoming Global Chess League in London has generated a buzz within the chess community, with Erigaisi’s participation adding to the excitement. This will be his first visit to the British capital, and he is looking forward to exploring the city and aiming for victories on the board. “It will be my first time in London. I hope to visit the London Eye and aim for some nice wins on the board. Our team’s goal is to win it all, and I want to be at my absolute best,” Erigaisi concluded.

As Erigaisi prepares to take on the world’s best chess players in the upcoming tournaments, his fans and supporters are eagerly anticipating his performance on the global stage. Stay tuned for more updates on his journey in the world of chess.
