Exciting Results from Round 3 of Chennai Grand Masters 2024: Arjun Erigaisi Takes the Lead

In a thrilling third-round encounter at the Chennai Grand Masters 2024, GM Arjun Erigaisi faced off against GM Alexey Sarana in a game that had two distinct phases. The first 23 moves were flawlessly played by both sides, but the rest of the game was marred by tactical errors. Despite the ups and downs, it was Arjun’s resourcefulness that ultimately led him to victory, propelling him to the second position in live world ratings and overtaking GM Fabiano Caruana.

Meanwhile, GM Amin Tabatabaei pulled off a surprising one-sided victory against heavyweight GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, joining Arjun in the lead with 2.5 points in the Masters section. GM Levon Aronian also scored his first win of the tournament against GM Parham Maghsoodloo, securing the sole third place with 2 points.

In the Challengers section, GM Pranav Venkatesh continued his winning streak by defeating GM Murali Karthikeyan in a long endgame, taking the sole lead with 3 wins. He is followed by GM Leon Mendonca with 2.5 points and GM Raunak Sadhwani with 2 points.
