Ravichandran Ashwin Becomes Co-Owner of American Gambits in Global Chess League
Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has added a new title to his name as he becomes a co-owner of the American Gambits, a team set to participate in the upcoming Global Chess League. This exciting development was announced as the League unveiled the six franchises for its second edition, scheduled to take place in London from October 3 to 12.
The American Gambits, owned by prominent business leaders Prachura PP, Venkat K Narayana, and Ashwin himself, will be replacing the Chingari Gulf Titans in the league. Ashwin expressed his enthusiasm for this new venture, stating, “We’re thrilled to introduce the American Gambits to the chess world. With a blend of strategic brilliance and unwavering determination, our team aims to redefine the game. As co-owner, I’m excited to witness their journey and contribute to their success.”
In addition to the American Gambits, the league will see the return of five other franchises – Alpine SG Pipers, PBG Alaskan Knights, Ganges Grandmasters, defending champions Triveni Continental Kings, and Mumba Masters. The CEO of the Global Chess League, Sameer Pathak, expressed his excitement for the upcoming season, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome the teams for the second season of the Global Chess League. We have found the right partners to strengthen the league’s global reach and look forward to bringing an exciting season of chess to fans worldwide.”
The tournament will feature a unique joint team format with six players per team, including two top women chess players and a prodigy player. The matches will be played in a double round-robin format, with each team playing a total of 10 matches. The innovative format will be aired on major OTT and broadcast platforms worldwide, adding to the excitement and anticipation among fans.
