FIDE Master Tahsin Tajwar Zia to Represent Bangladesh in 45th Chess Olympiad
In a thrilling tie-breaker match, FIDE Master Tahsin Tajwar Zia secured the fifth spot in the upcoming 45th Chess Olympiad, representing Bangladesh. The 19-year-old chess prodigy, who is the only son of the late Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman, emerged victorious in the tie-breaker to finish fifth in the 48th National Chess Championship held at the Bangladesh Chess Federation hall room.
Tahsin tied with Ananta Chowdhury for the fifth position, both scoring seven points each after the completion of the 13-round championship. The tie-breaker match was held to determine the final spot in the Bangladesh team for the Chess Olympiad, which consists of the top five players from the championship.
In a tense showdown, Tahsin defeated Ananta with black pieces in the first game and then drew the second match to secure his place in the team. Despite the recent passing of his father, Grandmaster Zia, during the championship, Tahsin remained focused on the game and his goal of representing Bangladesh in Chess Olympiads, just like his father.
GM Zia and Tahsin had made history in 2022 as the first father-son duo to compete in a Chess Olympiad. Tragically, GM Zia passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest during the 12th round match of the championship. Tahsin revealed that his father had hoped to compete alongside him in another Chess Olympiad.
With his qualification for the 45th Chess Olympiad, Tahsin is determined to honor his father’s legacy and continue their shared passion for chess. The Olympiad is scheduled to take place in Budapest, Hungary from September 10, where Tahsin will represent Bangladesh on the international stage.
The chess community is eagerly anticipating Tahsin’s performance in the upcoming Olympiad, as he carries on the legacy of his father and aims to make his mark in the world of chess.
