Andrew Tang Claims 10th Bullet Brawl Title in Record-Breaking Fashion

In a thrilling display of speed and strategy, Grandmaster Andrew Tang clinched his 10th Bullet Brawl title on Saturday, securing a $400 prize after one of the fastest finishes in the event’s history. Tang’s remarkable performance included a stunning 17-game unbeaten streak that propelled him to an impressive eight-point lead over fellow Grandmaster Oleksandr Bortnyk.

The Bullet Brawl, a weekly arena hosted by Chess.com, saw 178 titled players compete in a high-octane format with a 1+0 time control. Tang’s victory was characterized by his aggressive playstyle, which often left opponents scrambling to keep up. He played a staggering 84 games, winning 65 of them, despite losing 15—a testament to his relentless pursuit of victory.

Bortnyk, who had a strong start and even managed to defeat Tang in earlier rounds, ultimately fell short. His final score of 215 points placed him second, while International Master Renato Terry and GM Daniel Naroditsky took home $150 and $100 for their third and fourth place finishes, respectively. Georgian IM Meri Arabidze also shone, earning the best women’s prize by edging out IM Karina Ambartsumova.

In a separate community event, Sundram Kumar dominated with a remarkable score of 79.5 out of 83, finishing 77 points ahead of the second-place competitor.

The next Bullet Brawl is set to kick off on Saturday, May 3, at noon ET/17:00 CEST, promising more electrifying chess action. As Tang continues to redefine the boundaries of bullet chess, competitors will need to adapt their strategies to keep pace with his rapid-fire tactics.
