Magnus Carlsen Clinches Title at Tata Steel Chess India Rapid Tournament, Praggnanandhaa Finishes Runner-Up

World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen of Norway showcased his dominance in the Tata Steel Chess India Rapid Tournament, clinching the title in the Open section with a flawless performance on the final day. Carlsen finished with an impressive total of 7.5 points out of 9, securing the top spot and finishing two points ahead of his nearest competitors.

In the women’s section, Russia’s Aleksandra Goryachkina emerged triumphant with 7.5 points, maintaining her consistent form throughout the tournament. Goryachkina’s stellar performance earned her the top spot on the podium at the Dhono Dhanyo Auditorium in Kolkata.

India’s R Praggnanandhaa put up a strong showing, finishing as the runner-up in the Open section with 5.5 points. Praggnanandhaa’s superior tie-break score earned him the second spot, while Wesley So took the third position.

In the women’s section, Georgia’s Nana Dzagnidze secured the first runner-up position with 5.5 points, while India’s Vantika Agrawal claimed the second runner-up spot with 5 points. Goryachkina’s victory in the women’s section added to the excitement of the tournament.
