Magnus Carlsen Wins 2024 Tata Steel Chess India Open Blitz Title

In a thrilling display of skill and nerves of steel, GM Magnus Carlsen has once again proven why he is considered one of the greatest chess players of all time. The recent 2024 Tata Steel Chess India Open Blitz saw Carlsen adding another title to his already impressive collection, after beating GM Arjun Erigaisi in a tense penultimate round.

The competition was fierce, with Arjun Erigaisi taking the lead with three rounds to go after a five-game drawing streak. However, in a dramatic turn of events, the Indian star lost the last three games, allowing GM Wesley So to snatch second place with a remarkable six-game winning streak.

On the women’s side, GM Kateryna Lagno emerged victorious in the 2024 Tata Steel Chess India Women’s Blitz, clinching the title with a round to spare. Despite seeing her lead evaporate at one point, Lagno managed to hold off a strong challenge from GM Valentina Gunina, who secured second place after winning their last-round encounter.

The tournament, held in the Dhono Dhanyo Auditorium in Kolkata, featured both an Open and a Women’s section, each consisting of 10 players. The rapid chess section was followed by two days of blitz, with players competing for a substantial prize fund.
