Exciting Updates on the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour 2025
The Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour 2025 is heating up with the second stop in Paris scheduled for April 7-14. The event boasts a star-studded field of twelve of the world’s best players, with 11 already confirmed. The final spot will be determined through a $50,000 Chess.com qualifier on March 8-12.
The surprise winner of the first event in Weissenhaus, GM Vincent Keymer, will be back to defend his title in Paris. World number-one Magnus Carlsen and World Champion Gukesh Dommaraju are among the confirmed players, making it a truly elite competition with eight of the world’s top-ten players participating.
Hans Niemann, who received a wildcard invitation due to his victory at the Grenke Chess Open last year, will also be competing in Paris. The final spot for the event will be decided through an open qualification event on Chess.com, promising an intense battle for the remaining slot.
The Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Paris will feature a round-robin phase followed by a knockout stage, with classical time-control matches in the final six days. The event will be held at the Pavillon Chesnaie du Roy in the historic Bois de Vincennes.
Following the Paris event, the Grenke Freestyle Chess Open will take place in Karlsruhe, Germany from April 17-21, offering a €225,000 prize pool. The tournament winner will earn a spot in the third Grand Slam event in the U.S. in July.
Sebastian Siebrecht, Freestyle’s Chief Chess Officer, expressed his excitement for the upcoming events, stating that the Karlsruhe tournament will be the strongest ever held on German soil. The organizers of the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam 2025 are thrilled with the success of the debut event in Weissenhaus and are looking forward to the upcoming competitions.
With events scheduled in New York, Delhi, and Cape Town later in the year, the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour 2025 promises to be a thrilling and competitive series for players and fans alike.
