GM Fabiano Caruana Maintains Lead Heading into Final Round of Superbet Chess Classic Romania

The Superbet Chess Classic Romania continued with a fourth day full of draws, setting the stage for an exciting final round with GM Fabiano Caruana leading by a half-point. The longest game of the round lasted almost six hours between GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov and GM Bogdan-Daniel Deac.

Caruana maintained his lead after drawing against GM Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu, while other draws occurred in matchups between GM Alireza Firouzja and GM Ian Nepomniachtchi, GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and GM Wesley So, and GM Gukesh Dommaraju and GM Anish Giri.

The final round is set to take place on Friday, July 5, with Caruana defending his lead against Giri. The tournament players will have to wait until the final day for celebrations, as the standings remain unchanged with five draws in the eighth round.

The Olympic chess torch also passed through Bucharest on its way to Budapest, adding to the festivities in the city. Despite the lack of decisive results, the players continue to showcase their skills and determination in the tournament.
