Kanpur Hosts 53rd KVS Regional Girls Chess Championship: Winners Headed to National Meet

The 53rd KVS regional girls chess championship concluded in Kanpur with a bang as 64 young chess enthusiasts battled it out in the Under 14, 17, and 19 age group categories. The two-day event, held at Central School No 2 Chakeri, saw intense competition and strategic gameplay from the participants.

The meet was inaugurated by Wing Commander (Group Captain) Saurabh Singh Chauhan, adding a touch of prestige to the championship. The top five winners in each age group have been selected to represent the region at the national meet scheduled to take place in Assam in November 2024.

In the Under 14 category, Aditi Singh from AMC Lkw emerged victorious with 5 points, followed by Akanksha Yadav from AMC Lkw and Akriti Gupta from Raksha Vihar Knp. The Under 17 category saw Nisha Bhushan from Knp Cant. clinching the top spot, with Gargi Dixit from Gomti Nagar Lko closely behind. Finally, in the Under 19 category, Sejal Yadav from RRC Fatehgarh secured the first position, showcasing her exceptional skills on the chessboard.

The event not only provided a platform for young girls to showcase their talent but also highlighted the growing interest in chess among the youth. The dedication and sportsmanship displayed by the participants were commendable, making the championship a memorable experience for all involved.
