Chess.com Fog Of War Chess Championship 2024 Qualifiers and Finals Preview

Two international masters, including last month’s Chess.com Community Champion in Duck Chess, IM Nhat Minh To, have qualified for the Finals of the Chess.com Fog Of War Chess Championship 2024. Alongside them, four FIDE masters also secured their spots after a series of qualifying events held on October 17.

The knockout Finals, where the winner will take home $600, are set to begin on Friday, October 18, at 12 p.m. ET and will be streamed on Chess.com’s Community Twitch page.

In the Fog Of War variant, players can only see their own pieces and the squares that their pieces can see, making it a unique and challenging chess experience. The variant forces players to play half-blindfolded, adding a new level of strategy and mystery to the game.

FM Yihe Fu and FM Luis Chan were among the top qualifiers, showcasing their skills in the variant. Fu’s quick victory in just four moves demonstrated the dangers of not being aware of your opponent’s pieces, while Chan had an impressive 97.1% win rate in the qualifying events.

The upcoming Finals will feature a double-elimination format, giving all players a chance to come back even after a loss. With Minh To and Fu paired in the first round, the competition is expected to be intense as they battle for the championship title.

The Chess.com Fog Of War Chess Championship is part of the Chess.com Community Championships series and promises to be an exciting event for chess enthusiasts and players alike. Stay tuned for more updates and coverage on this unique and challenging chess variant.
