Titled Tuesday: Chess.com’s Weekly Tournament for Titled Players

Chess.com’s Titled Tuesday tournament has become a staple event for titled players in the chess community. Since February 1, 2022, this weekly 11-round Swiss tournament has been held twice each Tuesday at 8 a.m. PT/17:00 CET and 2 p.m. PT/23:00 CET. The tournament format includes 3+1 Blitz time control and tiebreaks using the Buchholz Cut 1 method.

One of the standout players in Titled Tuesday history is GM Hikaru Nakamura, who has dominated the event with 68 total victories since October 20, 2020. Following closely behind is GM Dmitry Andreikin with 16 wins to his name.

The tournament also offers a substantial prize fund, with the winner taking home $1,000, followed by $750 for second place and $350 for third. Additionally, there is a $100 prize for the highest-performing female player.

Titled Tuesday has a rich history, debuting in December 2014 as a monthly event before transitioning to a weekly format in April 2020. The tournament expanded to its current 11-round structure on October 20, 2020. Notably, from June 2 to October 13, 2020, Titled Tuesday was part of the Speed Chess Championship qualification cycle.

Looking ahead, starting in 2024, Titled Tuesday will introduce cumulative annual standings and prizes as part of the Titled Cup. The event will also return to the Speed Chess Championship qualification cycle in the same year.

For untitled players looking to participate, Chess.com offers the Untitled Tuesday community event, allowing them to showcase their skills and compete in a friendly environment. The event takes place every week, with tournaments starting at 1:30 p.m. ET and 7:30 p.m. ET.

Overall, Titled Tuesday continues to be a highlight for the chess community, providing an exciting platform for titled players to showcase their talent and compete for prestigious prizes.
