Russian Chess Player Allegedly Poisons Rival in Shocking Tournament Incident
The world of chess is known for its strategic moves and intense rivalries, but a recent incident in southern Russia has taken competition to a whole new level. A chilling moment was captured on CCTV footage at the Dagestan Chess Championship, where 40-year-old chess pro Amina Abakarova allegedly attempted to poison her rival, Umayganat Osmanova.
In the grainy footage, Abakarova can be seen approaching a chess board with a carrier bag in hand. She carefully pours a powdered substance onto the board and smears it with a chess piece before making a hasty exit from the room. Osmanova later complained of severe dizziness and nausea during her game, but remarkably went on to win a prize in the tournament.
It is reported that Abakarova harbored a personal hostility towards Osmanova after a previous defeat in a tournament. She has since been apprehended and confessed to pouring mercury from a thermometer onto Osmanova’s board. Mercury inhalation can cause serious harm to the body, and Abakarova now faces charges of intentional infliction of bodily harm, with a possible three-year prison sentence if convicted.
Dagestan’s Minister of Sport, Sazhida Sazhidova, expressed her disbelief at the incident, stating that Abakarova’s actions could have had tragic consequences for everyone present. The chess community is left shocked by this unprecedented turn of events, as Abakarova now awaits justice for her alleged assassination attempt on her rival.
