Chess Player Indrajeet Mahindrakar Returns to India from Bangladesh with Appendicitis

A 24-year-old chess player from Ambejogai in Beed district, Indrajeet Mahindrakar, finally returned to India on Monday evening after being stuck in strife-torn Bangladesh with appendicitis. Indrajeet boarded a flight from Dhaka and landed in Kolkata at 6.25pm, with plans to fly to Pune for surgery.

His father, Ravindra, expressed relief at his son’s safe return, noting that Indrajeet managed to leave Bangladesh without official help despite efforts from state cabinet minister Dhananjay Munde. Indrajeet had traveled to Bangladesh on July 12 for a chess event and was out of contact since July 20. He was rushed to a hospital on Saturday for appendicitis-related pain.

The family is grateful for the support of chess associations in helping Indrajeet return home. They plan to move him to a private hospital in Pune for surgery. The ordeal highlights the challenges faced by individuals caught in conflict zones and the importance of timely medical care in such situations.
