On July 20, 2024, International Chess Day will be celebrated in a unique way as the International Chess Federation (FIDE) marks its 100th anniversary. To commemorate this special occasion, FIDE is aiming to set a new Guinness World Record for the most chess games played in a 24-hour period. The current record stands at 5.4 million games, set on June 20, 2024.
Chess enthusiasts from around the world are invited to participate in this record-breaking attempt on Saturday, July 20, 2024. Whether you are a seasoned player or a beginner, this is your chance to be part of a global event and make history. As Guinness World Records says, “Be officially amazing!”

Players must be registered with the platform, and games against computers will not be counted.

Over-the-board games also require a minimum time control of five minutes per game with no increment or three minutes per game with a two-second increment.
