European Chess Union (ECU) Expert Bodies and Commissions
The European Chess Union (ECU) has been making waves in the chess world with its innovative programs and initiatives. One of the most recent developments is the establishment of the ECU Trainers Commission (ETC), which aims to support training programs and development in European chess.
Since its inception in late 2022, the ECU-ETC has been actively working towards its mission. One of its major achievements is the creation of a comprehensive Guide/Regulations and a three-volume Syllabus series aimed at educating trainers and promoting self-improvement. The partnership with Chessable, a well-known publishing platform, has allowed the ECU to turn the Syllabus series into a commercial product, ensuring financial benefits for the organization.
In addition to educational materials, the ECU-ETC has also been conducting seminars to educate trainers and provide them with the opportunity to achieve ECU-ETC Trainer’s Titles. The participation of female trainers has been notably high, highlighting the Commission’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Looking ahead, the ECU-ETC has announced exciting future programs, including the 2024-25 Academy Program and the 4th Titles’ Seminar. The Academy Program will feature renowned trainers such as Ivan Sokolov, A. Mikhalchishin, and An. Stefanova, offering structured programs open to players from all over the world. The 4th Titles’ Seminar will provide trainers with the opportunity to enhance their skills and knowledge in the field of chess training.
Overall, the ECU-ETC, under the leadership of General Secretary GM Efstratios Grivas, is paving the way for the advancement of chess training and development in Europe. With its innovative programs and initiatives, the Commission is set to make a significant impact on the chess community in the years to come.
