Mumbai, September 24: The return of Dommaraju Gukesh from the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest has sparked a wave of excitement and anticipation in the chess world. Gukesh, a rising star in the chess arena, clinched two gold medals at the prestigious event – one for the Team Championship and another for his Individual performance on Top Board. This remarkable feat has once again thrust Gukesh into the spotlight, solidifying his position as a contender for the coveted title of World Champion.

Following in the footsteps of the legendary Viswanathan Anand, Gukesh has emerged as India’s brightest chess star, leading a golden generation of young chess players that includes Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa, Arjun Erigaisi, Nihal Sarin, and Aravindh Chithambaram. Together, they have established India as a formidable force in the world of chess, capturing the attention and admiration of fans worldwide.

Gukesh’s stellar performance at the Budapest Olympiad, where he remained undefeated and secured 10 points out of 11 rounds with nine wins and two draws, has positioned him as a strong contender for the World Chess Championship title. The 18-year-old prodigy is set to challenge reigning World Champion Ding Liren of China in a highly anticipated final match scheduled to take place in Singapore from November 25 to December 16.

Born in Chennai to a family of doctors, Gukesh’s journey to chess stardom has been marked by dedication, perseverance, and unwavering support from his family. His father, Dr. Rajinikanth, a former ENT surgeon, made significant sacrifices to accompany Gukesh on his chess journey, while his mother, Dr. Padma, has been the family’s sole breadwinner.

Gukesh’s meteoric rise in the world of chess began in 2019 when he became the second-youngest Grandmaster in history at the age of 12 years, 7 months, and 17 days. Since then, he has amassed numerous accolades, including gold medals at the Asian Youth Chess Championships and World Youth Championships, as well as a historic victory over Magnus Carlsen, the reigning World No.1.

With his exceptional talent, strategic prowess, and unwavering determination, Gukesh is poised to make history as he vies for the title of World Champion. As the chess world eagerly awaits the showdown between Gukesh and Ding Liren, all eyes are on the young prodigy from Mumbai, who is on the brink of etching his name in the annals of chess greatness.
