Vaishali R set to make debut in Global Chess League after earning Grandmaster title

Vaishali R, the newly crowned Grandmaster, is all set to make her debut in the upcoming second season of the Global Chess League. The 23-year-old chess prodigy was one of the top picks at the player draft held in August, and she is eager to showcase her skills on the global stage.

Expressing her excitement about participating in the prestigious league, Vaishali shared, “I was thrilled to watch the first season of the Global Chess League, and now I am thrilled to be a part of it. I am looking forward to giving my best for my team.” She also mentioned her excitement about playing alongside the legendary Viswanathan Anand and competing against her brother Praggnanandhaa R’s team.

The Global Chess League features a unique team format where players from different countries come together to compete. Vaishali believes that this format will help players improve individually as they get to discuss and share ideas with their teammates. The league’s second edition is scheduled to take place in London from 3rd to 12th October, and Vaishali is already planning her off-the-board adventures in the city.

“I missed visiting the London Eye ride during my last trip to London five years ago, so I am looking forward to exploring the city this time,” Vaishali shared. The tournament will see each team playing a total of 10 matches in a double round-robin format, with the winner of each match determined by a best-of-six board scoring system.

The Global Chess League is the world’s first and largest official franchise league of its kind, bringing together male and female chess champions to compete in a joint team format. Played on the rapid format, the league’s unique multiplayer teams are a rare sight in the world of professional sports.

As Vaishali gears up for her debut in the Global Chess League, chess enthusiasts around the world are eagerly awaiting to see her in action and witness the thrilling matches that the league has to offer.
