DPS Azad Nagar Triumphs in Zone A Girls Chess Championship
Kanpur: In a thrilling display of strategic prowess, DPS Azad Nagar emerged victorious in the Zone A girls chess championship held at Woodbine Gardenia School on Friday. The competition was fierce, with DPS Azad Nagar and Nurture School Kalyanpur both accumulating 13.5 points. However, DPS Azad Nagar clinched the title with a superior score in the tie-break system, leaving Nurture School to settle for the runner-up position.
The championship saw the participation of 55 girls from classes IX to XII, representing 11 CBSE schools. The event spanned five rounds, with Sahib Rehman, the director of Woodbine School, inaugurating the championship. Principal Sumita Mukherjee extended a warm welcome to the director and all the participants.
The final standings of the championship are as follows:
1. DPS Azad Nagar (13.5 points)
2. Nurture International School (13.5 points)
3. Sri Sanatan Dharma Education Center (13 points)
The board winners were also recognized for their exceptional performances:

3rd – Ananta Chaudhary (Prabhat Sr Sec. School)

In a separate event, the Zone A chess championship for girls from classes VI to VIII is currently underway at Sriram Public School, Kidwai Nagar. After two rounds, KR Education Center and UP Kirana School are jointly leading with 4 points. A total of 75 girls from 15 school teams are participating, with two more rounds scheduled for Saturday.
