Alexander Onischuk: A Chess Legacy and New Beginnings at KCF Academy

LUBBOCK, TX — Alexander Onischuk, a name synonymous with excellence in the chess world, continues to inspire both seasoned players and newcomers alike. Earning his Grandmaster title in 1994 in Ukraine, Onischuk has since established a remarkable career in American chess, marked by significant achievements including winning the U.S. Championship in 2006 and leading the U.S. team to victory at the World Team Chess Championship in 2010.

Since 2012, Onischuk has been at the helm of the chess program at Texas Tech University, where his leadership has propelled the team to new heights. Under his guidance, the team clinched the Pan-American Chess Championship titles in both 2015 and 2019, and they have reached the Final Four for five consecutive years—a testament to Onischuk’s coaching prowess and dedication.

Now, Onischuk is set to take his expertise to a broader audience through the KCF Academy, an initiative that promises to elevate chess training to unprecedented levels. Starting March 15 at 17:00 CET, chess enthusiasts can join live sessions at KCF Academy, where they will embark on a comprehensive training journey led by an elite team of international Grandmasters, including the legendary Garry Kasparov.

The 2026 season is poised to be the most extensive yet, featuring weekly workshops, four progressive training levels, and a dedicated Expert Group for advanced players. Participants will not only sharpen their skills but also become part of a global chess community, culminating in the Kasparov Chess Foundation Friendship Festival in Slovenia from June 25 to July 5, 2026. This flagship event will gather students, trainers, and chess enthusiasts from around the world for an unforgettable experience.

KCF Academy also offers special Saturday lessons based on the revered Botvinnik School training system, which has shaped many of the great champions of the 20th century, including Anatoly Karpov and Garry Kasparov. This systematic approach to teaching classical chess principles ensures that participants receive a timeless education in the game.

As Onischuk continues to influence the chess landscape, he invites players of all levels to join him in this exciting new chapter. “Secure your place today and come ready to work on one of the most important parts of the game,” he encourages.
