Teaming up with Norwegian businessman Morten Borge, Haaland has co-founded Chess Mates, which is set to become a significant stakeholder in Norway Chess. This partnership marks a bold move to elevate the profile of chess on a global scale.

He further noted that Haaland’s innovative ideas will be invaluable as they move into the final phase of selecting host cities for the inaugural tour.
The Total Chess World Championship Tour will feature four tournaments each year, hosted in different cities, culminating in the crowning of a combined world champion across three formats: fast classic, rapid, and blitz. A pilot tournament is slated to kick off this year, with a full season set to launch in 2027.
