Alireza Firouzja Dominates Round of 16 in Speed Chess Championship 2024

GM Alireza Firouzja made a stunning start to his Speed Chess Championship 2024 campaign with a thrilling victory over GM Alexander Grischuk in the Round of 16 match. The match was filled with enterprising opening play and intense time scrambles, keeping fans on the edge of their seats.

Firouzja, who recently triumphed over GM Hikaru Nakamura in the 2024 Bullet Chess Championship, showcased his skills once again by defeating the experienced Grischuk. Despite the increment time control being an equalizer in the SCC, Firouzja managed to outplay Grischuk and secure a 13.5-10.5 victory.

On the other hand, four-time SCC runner-up GM Wesley So faced a tough challenge from prodigy GM Denis Lazavik in his Round of 16 match. The blitz sections of the match were closely contested, but So’s class shone through in the bullet portion, allowing him to clinch a 12-10 victory.
