Former World Champion Vladimir Kramnik’s Online Poll on Cheating in Chess Backfires

Former world champion Vladimir Kramnik, known for his outspoken views on cheating in chess, recently posted an online poll on his X handle that backfired on him. The poll asked, “Who is doing most damage to chess nowadays,” with options including cheaters, structures covering them, players silent about it, and a surprising fourth option, “You, I support cheaters.”

When the poll closed with 3,375 votes, the majority (49%) chose the last option, indicating that they believed Kramnik himself was doing the most damage to chess. Kramnik took to social media to comment on the results, acknowledging some trolls but standing by the outcome as reflective of the current situation with cheating in chess.

This incident is just the latest in Kramnik’s crusade against cheating in the game. He recently participated in a match against GM Jose Martinez to settle a dispute about alleged cheating, ultimately winning the rematch called ‘The Clash of Blames’ in London.

Kramnik’s tactics and outspoken views on cheating in chess have sparked controversy in the chess community, with this poll serving as a self-inflicted blunder for the former world champion. Stay tuned for more updates on this ongoing story.
