Exciting Second Season of Global Chess League Set to Begin in London

The Global Chess League gears up for an exciting second season as top players are drafted into six franchises for the upcoming tournament in London. The Player Draft, held in New Delhi, saw 30 of the world’s best chess players being selected to compete in the highly anticipated event from October 3-12 at Friends House.

The franchises, including Alpine SG Pipers, Ganges Grandmasters, Mumba Masters, PBG Alaskan Knights, defending champions Triveni Continental Kings, and debutants American Gambits, engaged in a fierce bidding war to form their squads. Each franchise had 1000 points to fill their quotas of Superstar Men, Superstar Women, Prodigy players, and Icons.

Icon players like Magnus Carlsen, Viswanathan Anand, and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave were among the heavyweights selected by the franchises. The drafting process saw exciting picks, with players expressing their enthusiasm for the upcoming season.

The franchises invested heavily in securing top talent among Superstar Women, with notable players like Hou Yifan and Koneru Humpy joining the league. The draft also saw young talents like Nihal Sarin and Raunak Sadhwani being selected by PBG Alaskan Knights and Mumba Masters, respectively.

With the player draft concluded, the CEO of Global Chess League, Sameer Pathak, expressed his excitement for the upcoming season in London. The tournament will feature a double round-robin format, with the winner determined through a best-of-six board scoring system.

The second season of the Global Chess League promises to be bigger and more thrilling, with fans eagerly awaiting the intense competition among the world’s best chess players.
