Top chess players Hikaru Nakamura and Anish Giri are set to join former world champions Magnus Carlsen and Viswanathan Anand in the upcoming second season of the Global Chess League. Nakamura will be playing for the American Gambits team, while Giri will make his debut with PBG Alaskan Knights.

The Global Chess League, known for its exciting team format, allows fans to pick their favorite players and cheer them on throughout the season. Nakamura expressed his excitement about joining the American Gambits team and looks forward to meeting his teammates in London for the upcoming season.

Carlsen, who played in the first season of the league, will continue with Alpine SG Pipers, while Anand will represent Ganges Grandmasters once again. Both players praised the team format introduced by the Global Chess League, emphasizing the refreshing change it brings to the individual sport of chess.

Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, who led the Mumbai Masters to the final last season, will return to play for the Mumbai-based franchise. Ian Nepomniachtchi, a two-time world chess championship contender, will be the icon player for the Triveni Continental Kings.

The CEO of Global Chess League, Sameer Pathak, announced the names of the icon players and mentioned that the full team rosters will be revealed in the coming weeks. With such renowned players leading each team, Pathak is confident that the upcoming matches will provide an incredible experience for millions of chess fans.

The second season of the Global Chess League, a collaboration between Tech Mahindra and FIDE, is scheduled to take place from October 3 to 12 at Friends House in London. Anand praised the league as an “Indian way” of organizing sports, highlighting the innovative approach taken by Indian organizers in the world of chess.
