World champion D. Gukesh shines at Tata Steel Chess tournament with masterful victory

In a stunning display of skill and precision, world champion D. Gukesh delivered a technically masterful performance to defeat Vincent Keymer of Germany at the Tata Steel Chess tournament. With this victory, Gukesh’s score now stands at an impressive 3.5 points at the end of the fifth round, propelling him to fourth place in the live ratings.

Playing with the white pieces, Gukesh showcased complete control over the game against Keymer, utilizing a Nimzo-Indian defense strategy. With methodical moves and strategic pawn captures, Gukesh gained a solid hold on the central opening file, ultimately securing the win after 72 moves.

This second victory for Gukesh places him just behind R. Praggnanandhaa and Abdusattorov Nodirbek of Uzbekistan, who are currently leading the tournament with four points each. Despite facing tough opponents, both Praggnanandhaa and Abdusattorov managed to maintain their positions at the top of the leaderboard.
