Speaking at the Trailblazers 3.0 sports conclave in Kolkata, Gukesh humbly acknowledged his achievement but emphasized that he still has a long way to go. “It’s a positive thing that I have won this but there is also someone like Magnus to look up to and set myself as a benchmark,” he said. “I have to improve in other formats—rapid, blitz, now freestyle has come up. I have lots to look forward to.”

Gukesh also highlighted the exceptional talent emerging from India in the world of chess, with players like Arjun Ergaisi and R Praggnanandhaa making waves on the international stage. He expressed his excitement about the healthy rivalry among Indian players and their success in major tournaments.

As a Chennai boy, Gukesh revealed that he looks up to both Viswanathan Anand and MS Dhoni as his idols. He praised Dhoni for his achievements and composure during critical moments on the field, expressing his desire to meet the cricketing legend.

With Gukesh leading the charge, Indian chess is on the rise, and the young champion is determined to continue his journey of growth and success in the game.
