Celebrating the Best of Chess in 2024: Winners of the 2024 Chess.com Awards

The chess community has spoken, and the winners of the 2024 Chess.com Awards have been revealed! It was a year filled with incredible achievements and memorable moments in the world of chess, and now it’s time to celebrate the best of the best.

Starting off with the Player of the Year award, the honor goes to none other than GM Gukesh Dommaraju. At just 18 years old, Gukesh made history by becoming the youngest undisputed classical world champion and putting on a stellar performance in the Chess Olympiad. Climbing the rating ladder and breaking into the top-10 list for the first time, Gukesh’s future in chess looks incredibly bright.

In the Woman Player of the Year category, GM Ju Wenjun took home the award for her outstanding achievements throughout the year. From defeating some of the world’s top players to dominating the Women’s Speed Chess Championship, Ju’s talent and skill were on full display in 2024.

Creator of the Year once again went to IM Levy Rozman, the world’s biggest chess YouTuber. With his fourth consecutive win, Levy continues to connect with fans and share his love for the game in unique and engaging ways.

The Game of the Year award was given to the 12th game of the FIDE World Championship match between GM Ding Liren and Gukesh, showcasing Ding’s brilliance and masterful play.

Gukesh also took home the Move of the Year award for his stunning rook sacrifice against GM Vidit Gujrathi in the Candidates Tournament, a move that ultimately helped him secure victory and pave the way to becoming World Champion.

Rising Star of the Year went to GM Denis Lazavik, who made a name for himself in 2024 with impressive performances and qualifications for top events.

The youngest ever ChessKid of the Year award went to three-year-old Anish Sarkar, who achieved a FIDE rating of 1556 and captured hearts with his early chess prowess.

Commentator of the Year was once again awarded to IM Levy Rozman, showcasing his ability to engage and educate fans with his commentary.

Lastly, the Book of the Year award went to The Unknown Fischer by IM Cyrus Lakdawala, a book that sheds light on the brilliant games of GM Bobby Fischer.
