Gukesh rises to World No. 3, Anand drops out of top-10 in latest FIDE ratings

D Gukesh has made a significant leap in the latest FIDE ratings, climbing to the World No. 3 position for the first time in his career. The 18-year-old Indian chess prodigy has displaced some big names in the chess world, including Fabiano Caruana and Arjun Erigaisi.

Gukesh’s impressive performance saw him gain 10 rating points, reaching a total of 2787 Elo points. Meanwhile, former World Champion Viswanathan Anand has slipped out of the top-10 rankings, now sitting at the 14th position with 2743 Elo points.

On the other hand, another young Indian talent, R Praggnanandhaa, has made his way into the top-10, securing the eighth spot with 2758 points. Praggnanandhaa’s recent success includes winning the Tata Steel Masters title in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands.

Gukesh’s rise to the World No. 3 position comes after his remarkable performance at the Tata Steel Masters tournament. The young chess sensation made history last December by becoming the youngest World Chess Champion after defeating China’s Ding Liren in a thrilling 14th game.

With Gukesh’s rapid ascent and Praggnanandhaa’s impressive achievements, Indian chess is certainly on the rise on the global stage. It will be exciting to see how these young talents continue to make their mark in the world of chess.
