Gukesh falls 50 points behind Carlsen in FIDE ratings

World chess champion D Gukesh has slipped 50 points behind Magnus Carlsen in the latest FIDE ratings, further widening the gap between the two top players in the world. Despite his recent success and rise in the rankings, Gukesh still has a lot of work to do to catch up to the reigning champion.

In a recent update, Carlsen extended his lead to 50 points over Gukesh, with a live rating of 2837 compared to Gukesh’s 2787. Carlsen’s impressive performance in the Norwegian Team Chess Championship, where he won all three games on the top board for his team Offerspill, helped him maintain his position at the top.

While Gukesh has shown significant improvement in his standings, going from India No. 2 to No. 1 and reaching third in the FIDE rankings, he still has a long way to go to surpass Carlsen. The Norwegian has been the World No. 1 since 2011 and continues to dominate the chess world.

Despite the gap between Gukesh and Carlsen, India has seen its best-ever performance in FIDE ratings, with five players in the top 15. Alongside Gukesh, players like Arjun Erigaisi, R Praggnanandhaa, Aravindh Chithambaram, and Viswanathan Anand have also made their mark on the international chess scene.

As Gukesh continues to work towards his goal of becoming the top-ranked player in the world, chess fans eagerly await the next chapter in this exciting rivalry between the young Indian prodigy and the reigning champion.
