His alma mater, Vellamal Vidyalaya, even gifted him a luxurious Mercedes-Benz E Class following his victory in the Candidates tournament.

According to a report by Chess.com, Gukesh participated in a total of 8 major events in 2024, outshining his competitors and securing his position as the top earner in the chess world. Notably, only two players managed to surpass the million-dollar mark in earnings, with six players raking in USD 4,00,000.

The report also highlighted the impressive performances of other players, including R Praggnanandhaa and Arjun Erigaisi, who secured the ninth and 15th spots on the earnings list, respectively. World-renowned chess grandmaster Magnus Carlsen also made his mark, earning USD 6,33,369 after participating in 11 major events.
