GM Ediz Gurel Wins 2024’s Final Bullet Brawl, Magnus Carlsen Makes Surprise Appearance
GM Ediz Gurel emerged victorious in the final Bullet Brawl of 2024, claiming first place and a $400 prize. This win came just a week after falling short of his second title in a previous event where he faced off against GM Oleksander Bortnyk. Bortnyk, who finished in second place, was three points shy of overtaking Gurel once again.
IMs Renato Terry and Toivo Keinanen secured third and fourth place, while IM Karina Ambartsumova clinched the $100 best women’s prize by a narrow margin ahead of FM Anastasia Avramidou.
Surprisingly, former world champion GM Magnus Carlsen made a late appearance in the event and scored 21.5/25, showcasing his bullet chess skills after a controversial exit from the FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Championships 2024.
The competition featured 203 of the world’s quickest titled players, with Gurel dominating the field with 218 points. Despite facing tough competition, including Bortnyk, Gurel’s tactical prowess and strategic play secured his victory.
With this win, Gurel became the fifth player to win multiple Bullet Brawls in 2024, solidifying his position as a favorite in future editions. The next Bullet Brawl is set to take place on January 4, 2025, with a $1,000 prize fund up for grabs.
Bullet Brawl continues to attract top GMs and bullet specialists, making it a thrilling event for chess enthusiasts to watch and participate in. Stay tuned for more exciting competitions and fierce battles on the chessboard.
