Hans Niemann Withdraws from Lie-Detector Test After Accusing Daniil Dubov of ‘Child-Like’ Behaviour
American Grandmaster Hans Niemann made headlines recently after withdrawing from a lie-detector polygraph test following his loss to Russian Grandmaster Daniil Dubov in a blitz match in Moscow. Niemann accused Dubov of ‘child-like’ behavior and disrespect, leading to the dramatic decision.
The match between Niemann and Dubov took place after a controversy at the 2024 World Blitz Championship, where Dubov failed to show up for the game, resulting in Niemann winning by default. The tension between the two players escalated during the recent match, with Niemann ultimately backing out of the lie-detector test.
In a statement on YouTube, Niemann expressed his frustration with Dubov’s behavior, stating, “I have no intention of giving someone like Dubov, who behaved like a child, the honor of asking me a question on the lie detector, which is pure pseudo-science, when I have nothing to prove.” He also accused Dubov of speaking and disturbing him during the match, as well as refusing to shake hands.
Dubov, on the other hand, revealed in an interview that he intended to ask Niemann if he had ever cheated over the board in the past five years. The tension between the two players is set to continue, with Niemann scheduled to compete in the upcoming Paris Freestyle Grand Slam event against top players like Magnus Carlsen and D Gukesh.
Additionally, Niemann and Carlsen are set to appear in a Netflix documentary addressing their controversial cheating scandal, set to be released in April. The chess world is abuzz with anticipation as the drama between Niemann and Dubov unfolds.
