Hikaru Nakamura Makes History with Four Consecutive Titled Tuesday Wins

On November 19, GM Hikaru Nakamura made history by becoming the first player ever to win four consecutive Titled Tuesdays on Chess.com. Nakamura’s impressive streak was nearly extended to five wins in a row, but he was stopped by GM Alireza Firouzja in the late tournament.

In the early tournament, Nakamura dominated the field of 693 players, securing victory with a perfect score of 10/11. His key matchups included a draw with GM Magnus Carlsen and a decisive win over GM Alexey Sarana in the final round. Carlsen also performed well, scoring 10/11 but falling short on tiebreaks.

In the late tournament, Nakamura seemed poised to continue his winning streak with a perfect 8/8 score. However, Firouzja’s impressive performance, including a stunning game against GM Liem Le, allowed him to overtake Nakamura and secure first place with 9.5/11.

Despite the loss in the late tournament, Nakamura’s overall performance earned him $1,750 in prize money over the two tournaments. Firouzja took home the $1,000 first-place prize in the late tournament.

With his historic win, Nakamura now leads the Titled Cup standings with 200.5 points, while Carlsen trails closely behind with 195.5 points. The competition promises to heat up in the remaining 12 tournaments.
