Travellers to Malaysia during Good Friday, Qing Ming Festival and Hari Raya Puasa period advised to expect heavy traffic at Singapore border

Title: ICA warns of heavy traffic at Singapore-Malaysia border during upcoming public holidays

As the Good Friday, Qing Ming Festival, and Hari Raya Puasa period approaches, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has issued a warning to travellers heading to Malaysia to expect very heavy traffic at the border checkpoints.

The ICA advised those planning to visit Malaysia between 28 March and 14 April to anticipate additional waiting time at Singapore’s Woodlands and Tuas land checkpoints. The agency highlighted that the traveller volume at the checkpoints has significantly increased since the border reopening and has surpassed pre-COVID levels.

During the previous peak period over the March holidays, car travellers experienced up to three hours of waiting time at the checkpoints due to traffic congestion from Malaysia. To expedite the immigration clearance process, the ICA recently implemented a QR code system for car travellers.

With over 5.1 million travellers crossing the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints during the recent March school holidays, the ICA urged travellers to be patient, observe traffic rules, and cooperate with officers during the upcoming festive period.

Foreign vehicle drivers were reminded to ensure the validity of their Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) and settle any outstanding fines to avoid being denied entry into Singapore. The ICA also advised travellers to check traffic conditions at the checkpoints through the One Motoring website and local radio broadcasts.

Travellers are encouraged to utilize the QR code system for immigration clearance and follow the necessary procedures to ensure a smooth border crossing experience during the upcoming public holidays.
