The Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center in Naperville is set to undergo improvements starting on July 22. The Naperville Park District will be upgrading the heating and cooling system at the community center, located at 305 Jackson Ave. The work is expected to last until August 23, with certain programs and drop-in activities potentially being canceled or relocated during this time.

The park district will notify patrons of any affected programs through phone and email, and a full list of updates on closures can be found on the park district’s website. Additionally, the community center and its parking lot will be closed on July 24.

In other news, Naperville Mayor Scott Wehrli has been selected to participate in a yearlong leadership program at Harvard University, aimed at enhancing city management teams and improving resident outcomes. The program, led by the Bloomberg Center for Cities, will focus on strengthening problem-solving skills for mayors from around the world.

On a lighter note, the Waubonsie Valley High School chess team recently achieved first place at the International Schools Chess Festival in Romania. The team won all eight matches in the tournament, which featured over 100 students from seven countries. They also had the opportunity to visit Bucharest for the arrival of the FIDE 100 Torch Relay, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the International Chess Federation.
