India Makes History with First-Ever Gold Medal at Chess Olympiad
India made history on Sunday by clinching their first-ever gold medal at the Chess Olympiad in Budapest. The team, led by D Gukesh and Arjun Erigaisi, continued their stunning form to secure the top spot. R Praggnanadhaa also contributed to the victory with a win in their final round match against Slovenia.
But the success didn’t stop there, as the Indian women’s team also won gold after a dominant performance against Azerbaijan. D Harika and Divya Deshmukh were instrumental in securing the victory, with Divya also clinching the individual gold medal on the third board.
The men’s team had a superb win against the USA in the penultimate round, setting them up for the gold medal. Gukesh and Arjun delivered key wins to help India secure their first title in the open category.
