Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has added another feather to his cap by introducing a chess team, American Gambits, as a co-owner. The team is set to make its debut in the second season of the Global Chess League, scheduled to take place from October 3 to 12, 2024, at the Friends House in London. Along with former chess player Prachura PP and Venkat K Narayana (KVN), Ashwin will be owning the American Gambits in this prestigious league.
Ashwin, who is known for his exceptional skills on the cricket field with 516 wickets in 100 Test matches for India, expressed his excitement about venturing into the world of chess. He stated, “We’re thrilled to introduce the American Gambits to the chess world. With a blend of strategic brilliance and unwavering determination, our team aims to redefine the game. The entry of Prachura PP, a prominent figure in the chess community, has set a new precedent in the sport by joining this innovative league.
