Grandmasters Predict Indian GM Gukesh to Win FIDE World Championship by 12th Round

Indian Grandmasters Pravin Thipsay and Abhijit Kunte are confident that 18-year-old Indian GM D Gukesh will emerge victorious in the upcoming FIDE World Championship contest against Chinese opponent Liren Ding. Thipsay and Kunte believe that Gukesh’s game, which bears a resemblance to legendary Russian Anatoly Karpov, will lead him to victory by the 12th round in Singapore later this month.

Gukesh, who became the youngest champion in the history of the Candidates Tournament and helped India win the gold medal in the 45th Chess Olympiad, has had a stellar year in 2024. On the other hand, Ding has struggled in the Classical format this year, failing to secure a win.

Thipsay and Kunte praised Gukesh’s impeccable accuracy and strong character, comparing his style to that of Karpov. They highlighted Gukesh’s work ethic and commitment to constantly improving his game, attributing his success to the supportive environment created by his parents and coaches.

The upcoming contest between Gukesh and Ding is expected to be a battle of complete players, with both Grandmasters emphasizing the importance of over-the-board strategy and originality in their approach. Despite Ding’s recent struggles with depression affecting his performance, Thipsay and Kunte believe that Gukesh is currently in top form and is the clear favorite to win the championship.

With Gukesh’s unwavering dedication to chess and his impressive track record, the Indian Grandmasters are confident that he will outshine his opponent and secure victory in the highly anticipated World Championship contest.
